I’d been meaning to change the name of my blog since I left Istanbul. The concept of “Elidolu” (Turkish for “hands full”) wouldn’t be easy to explain to my new, global audience. Expecting them to remember the URL didn’t seem realistic.
But “Globally Happy” seemed fitting in at least two ways:
If you know me in person, you’ll attest to my almost naively positive attitude towards life and people. I know I’m privileged to be born into a loving family and favourable life circumstances. So I aim to be thankful and worthy of this privilege every day of my life.
Life holds many obstacles and challenges, which we often can’t control. But life is also what we make of it and especially how we regard and experience it. So I’m choosing to be globally happy.
The other reason the name fit so well is that in 2015, my family and I have set off on our expat journey. My husband’s job has lead us from Istanbul to Dubai and about a year ago to Munich.
As you can imagine, these three very characteristic cities are nothing alike. So I count myself lucky to get to experience the beauties each one of them has to offer. And I will also embrace new destinations to come.
I guess I’m indeed Globally Happy!
